    South West Garo Hills came into existence as a district of the state of Meghalaya on 07/08/2012. The Court of the District and Sessions Judge was established and inaugurated on the 24th of February 2017 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul Sangma and Hon’ble the Chief Justice, Mr Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, High Court of Meghalaya in the august presence of the Hon’ble Law Minister Smti Roshan Warjiri, Hon’ble Mr Justice S.R Sen, Judge, High Court of Meghalaya, Hon’ble Mr Justice V.P Vaish, Judge High Court of Meghalaya and other officials. Earlier, before this date the judicial functions have been exercised by the Executive.
    The foundation stone for the site of the proposed court building (Office of District and Sessions Judge) was laid and a Lok Adalat with a symbolic handing over was held on the 24th of February 2017 to signify the establishment and separation of the judiciary from the executive in the district.
    Currently the office of the District and Sessions Judge is situated at the New Court building were Shri A.M. Ripnar, District and Sessions Judge, West Garo Hills, in charge of South West Garo Hills, Smt Nausica M Sangma the Chief Judicial Magistrate, in charge of South West Garo Hills and Shri L.L.M. Rambai the Judicial Magistrate First Class.
